Ever since I saw the ‘coming soon’ signs as I walked through St Martin’s Square, I’ve been looking for a chance to check this place out. The atmosphere inside was great, even though we arrived a little on the early side of dinner time. I’m not particularly into music, but my husband appreciated the playlist.
We already have a favourite Mexican in Loughborough, so I was glad to see that Bodega, describing itself as Latin American, had a broader menu. The go to Mexican dishes – burritos, tacos, quesadillas – could all be found in the Street Food section, beside a wealth more of Light Bites and Large Plates.
Spoilt for choice, we both got two dishes. Papas chorreadas and grilled haloumi for me, chipotle chicken quesadilla and beef & chorizo empanadas for Sam. Good variety for both veggie and meat-eater alike and thumbs up all round! I’ve got my eyes on the haloumi burger and veggie tacos for future trips.
We did both have a glorious white chocolate and mojito cheesecake but I absolutely wolfed it down before I could think to take a picture for y’all – sorry!
The waiting staff were fairly fresh-faced; not at all impolite and nothing got dropped, just had an aura of newness. But really, we’ve all had that moment of internal screaming when you need experience to get experience, so hats off to the managers for training people up.
Bodega sits in the lovely St Martin’s Square and is open noon ’til late. Take public transport, the cocktails sound amazing.
